Castle Hedingham Parish Council
The Parish Council would like to invite you to attend the Annual Parish Meeting on Monday, 21st May, 8.00 pm at the Memorial Hall, Castle Hedingham. Please find below a summary of the parish council activities during the past year:
The Parish Council has a Public Forum as the first agenda item at each meeting. Councillors are pleased to report that parishioners have taken advantage of this opportunity to address the council.
Work drawing up a Village Design Statement continues. The Village Design Statement group held a very successful exhibition in early March and were delighted with the response they received. Particular thanks should go to Tom Kelly for his work on the exhibition. The group are now beginning the task of drafting the statement which will describe the village’s buildings, divide it up into ‘Character Areas’, and give guidance about the type of materials and developments that would be acceptable to the community. The parish council fully supports the Village Design Statement Group and is delighted that residents are so positive about this project. Once the statement has been produced, and the whole community has been consulted it is hoped that the statement will become part of planning law. The parish council would like to thank those parishioners involved as well as to Jan Cole from the Rural Community Council of Essex whose support and guidance has been invaluable.
The parish council is consulted by Braintree District Council for comments when there are planning applications within the parish. A list of planning applications is published in the Halstead Gazette each week. The parish council welcome comments from parishioners regarding planning applications and these can be submitted in writing to the Clerk and/or by attending the relevant Parish Council meeting and addressing the council in the Public Forum. Details of planning applications to be discussed are published with meeting agendas on the parish council notice board by the tennis court in St James Street. Parishioners should also submit their comments to the planning authority, Braintree District Council, either in writing or via their website.
Youth Council representatives attend Parish Council meetings in Sible and Castle Hedingham as well as holding their own meetings. They have had a successful year and are working to promote young people’s issues and also putting on events for their peers. The Parish Council welcomes a direct link with young people and wishes them every success.
The parish council are delighted by the success of the 331 Service to and from Sudbury, launched in April 2004 and adopted by Essex County Council in 2006. The council would like to thank Mr Trevor Hood for his extensive work on this project.
The parish council continue to have regular contact with Essex County Council Highways regarding maintenance issues in the village. Primrose lines have been installed in Majendie Lane following concerns from parishioners regarding parking in this area. Please note that it is possible to report faults directly to Essex County Council via their website.
Parishioners regularly bring concerns to the parish council regarding the speed of vehicles passing through the village. Several Parish Council members and parishioners were amongst the first in the country to undertake training to carry out speed monitoring in partnership with the police. The group monitor speeds on a regular basis and it is hoped this will have a positive effect on road safety in the village.
Essex Police have given the parish council details of Neighbourhood Policing Teams. Parishes have been grouped and each group has a designated officer who can be contacted by the Parish Council or parishioners to discuss local issues and ask for advice. This parish’s contact is PC3124 Melanie Mullinder and her contact telephone number is 07855 781608.
